Comments

Can I please ask that anyone wishing to contact the EOA and requiring a response please do so via the Membership/Contacts page on the above link rather than comments on individual posts or pages. As you are by now no doubt aware the EOA is no longer an active sailing organisation and this website is not regularly attended therefore comments are not picked up quickly, whereas by contacting us via the Contacts page your query can be dealt with more speedily.

Charitable Donations

Members and readers will be aware that in April 2016 the EOA made a charitable donation of £1,000 to the Cirdan Sailing Trust. (You can remind yourselves about it here…)

You will also be aware that, due to our ageing membership, most of whom no longer sail while still retaining an interest in the yachts that we represent, we are no longer an active sailing organisation. It therefore is no longer necessary for us to retain a significant bank balance and our finances have been closed.

We held an auction of assets in the presence of members as reported here previously and, in accordance with the wishes of the members decided at our last AGM we made a donation to the Walton and Frinton branch of the RNLI on 30th of August 2019 in the sum of £100. Once all our finances had been finalised, again in accordance with members wishes, we made a further charitable donation to the Cirdan Sailing Trust on 5th July 2019 in the sum of £2,898.40, being the final sum in our bank account which is now closed.

May I remind you that, although the EOA is no longer an ‘active’ association, we still have a web presence for the foreseeable future and also have the occasional social get-together for those members who wish to join us. Indeed the most recent was a well attended lunch at the Ship Inn at Heybridge Basin, Essex just over a month ago on Saturday, October 26th. Any further such gatherings will be notified on this website and anyone who wishes is welcome to attend.

Please also note that, as mentioned in my previous post, digital plans are still available free of charge from the EOA via this website and now also from the National Maritime Museum, Falmouth.

Yachting Monthly Plans

Further to the changes in the functioning of the EOA I can now inform you that the plans for all the Yachting Monthly designs have been lodged with the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth, Cornwall for future safe-keeping. They also have a digital of copy of all the plans and are happy to continue to send these out on request free of charge. Their web address is www.nmmc.co.uk.

This website will continue to be accessible for the foreseeable future and plans can of course, still be requested from us via our Contact page where the enquiries email address can be found.

We’re Still Here and Meeting

We are still here – contrary to some opinions expressed elsewhere we have not died a death. Yes we have changed. We no longer have a very active membership, younger people are not joining us nor buying our type of boats and as an International organisation it is difficult to run activities for such a widely scattered group so we have ceased to be an organisation with a fee-paying membership, nor do we produce our magazine any more. The EOA has ceased to exist in its old format.

However, we do still have a web presence – as you can see – so we are still able to provide plans free of charge and advice, also free of charge. We receive a steady flow of requests for our plans from all over the world. We are also still currently affiliated to the RYA and can benefit from their services. Without any membership fees to support it this website will probably eventually cease to exist in its present form but alternatives are in the pipeline and we will keep you posted. It is our intention to keep the plans (and advice) freely available for the future. We are also interested in any news connected with the YM designs or other Maurice Griffiths’ boats.

We still also offer occasional Social Gatherings – indeed we have one this coming weekend, Saturday 27th October at the Walton and Frinton Yacht Club. Most of the members who were deemed likely to attend have been notified and we are sorry if we missed you. If you would like to attend this event please let us know via the contacts page as soon as possible. If you cannot make this one but would like to be notified of future events please also inform us via the contacts page, or alternatively keep checking in here for updates.

Email Address Error

Please would members note that the email address given in the recent Newsletter for the proposed new group within the Lysander Owners Association was incorrect.

If you are interested in finding out more about the new group for home-build designs similar in concept to the Lysander, such as the YM designs, please type ‘hardey’ instead of ‘hardy’ in the email address or go directly to their website at http://www.lysander.org.uk

We are sorry for the error.

General Meeting Report

The meeting held at The Victoria PH in Theydon Bois, Essex on 17th March 2018 was well attended and we enjoyed an excellent meal in great company.

The charity auction raised approximately £170 which will be distributed along with other funds in accordance with the wishes of the members in attendance at the meeting – a sum to the RNLI and the remainder to the Cirdan Sailing Trust as in previous years. Some items for sale remain outstanding and the President is looking into ways of disposing of these in a satisfactory manor, with the monies being added to the charitable donations in due course.

A full report of the meeting and the decisions made will be published in the Newsletter to be distributed to the membership within the next few weeks.

Autumn Bulletin 2017

Bulletin CoverAt last it is here! A little later than usual so please accept my apologies.

Members will find, in this issue, a full report on the EGM that was held in September. The need to include this report is, in part, the cause of the delay. As I informed the meeting at the time, I was due to go on an extended Autumn holiday and would not therefore have time to prepare the magazine before I went but I promised to get the Bulletin to the members before Christmas. I am now pleased to report that I have posted it out this morning – it should be with you early next week.

Once again, please accept my apologies for the delay.
