E26 ‘Jonget’

We have recently received news that this soundly built Eventide 26  has become available. It is in the process of being renovated by students at the Gosport Marine Skills Centre but due to a change of policy at the Centre the renovation will not now be completed.

The boat is open to offers and may even be free to a good home. If you are interested in acquiring a bargain and in completing the renovation of this fine example of the Eventide design please look at our ‘Boats For Sale’ page for further information.

AGM Report

The 50th AGM of the Association took place on the re-scheduled date of 23rd February 2013. There was a good number of members in attendance and, after an excellent lunch, the business of the meeting was dealt with efficiently.  The raffle raised £55 which will be donated as usual to the RNLI. Several members commented on the fact that the Association is still going strong after 50 years; a testimony to the high regard held by Maurice Griffiths and his yacht designs. A full report of the meeting will be available to members in the Spring Bulletin, which is due out in May.

Pacific Challenge Aborted

We have recently learned that with regret Mike Williamson has cancelled his Pacific Challenge and returned home for personal reasons. We are leaving the link to his blog in the Blogroll on the sidebar for the time being as there is much of interest there which you may wish to read. We wish Mike every success with any future ventures.

Mike’s Pacific Challenge

EOA Member Mike Williamson has just set off to sail with a friend through the Panama Canal and across the Pacific Ocean. You can read all about his progress via his blog at http://mikeymariner.blogspot.com. Do check it out, it promises to be very interesting. There is also a link to this blog in the sidebar blogroll.

Mike is the husband of author Jackie, who wrote ‘Cevamp, Mike and Me’ about the building and sailing of E26 ‘Cevamp’ – an excellent read which we reviewed some time ago. Will there be another book after this adventure?

Borer Bee

It is always good to get news of the whereabouts of well known Eventides so it was with mixed feelings that we recently heard that E24 “Borer Bee” has come up for sale. She was one of the first Eventide’s built (in 1959, sail No. E8) and was owned by Lt. Comdr. Atkinson, RN, who sailed her home to England from Singapore (see History of the EOA). We last heard of her when two of our members reported seeing her and meeting her present owner in Coleraine during their “Cruise to the Causeway Coast”, published in The Bulletin, Autumn 2009.  Here’s hoping she finds a good home and we continue to hear more about her in future.

Heybridge Pub Lunch Report

Heybridge Lunch 2012A lively group of people arrived for the Autumn Pub Lunch at Heybridge Basin, near Malden, Essex on 27th October 2012 where we enjoyed good food and good company. Some of the assembly can be seen in the adjacent photo. Many thanks again to Charles and Anita for organising this event, which is fast becoming a regular on our calendar.

Those members present received their copy of the Autumn 2012 Bulletin hot off the press. Others will be receiving theirs shortly as they have now all been posted out, together with notification of the AGM to be held in January and a reminder that subs will then be due.
