We’re Still Here and Meeting

We are still here – contrary to some opinions expressed elsewhere we have not died a death. Yes we have changed. We no longer have a very active membership, younger people are not joining us nor buying our type of boats and as an International organisation it is difficult to run activities for such a widely scattered group so we have ceased to be an organisation with a fee-paying membership, nor do we produce our magazine any more. The EOA has ceased to exist in its old format.

However, we do still have a web presence – as you can see – so we are still able to provide plans free of charge and advice, also free of charge. We receive a steady flow of requests for our plans from all over the world. We are also still currently affiliated to the RYA and can benefit from their services. Without any membership fees to support it this website will probably eventually cease to exist in its present form but alternatives are in the pipeline and we will keep you posted. It is our intention to keep the plans (and advice) freely available for the future. We are also interested in any news connected with the YM designs or other Maurice Griffiths’ boats.

We still also offer occasional Social Gatherings – indeed we have one this coming weekend, Saturday 27th October at the Walton and Frinton Yacht Club. Most of the members who were deemed likely to attend have been notified and we are sorry if we missed you. If you would like to attend this event please let us know via the contacts page as soon as possible. If you cannot make this one but would like to be notified of future events please also inform us via the contacts page, or alternatively keep checking in here for updates.

Email Address Error

Please would members note that the email address given in the recent Newsletter for the proposed new group within the Lysander Owners Association was incorrect.

If you are interested in finding out more about the new group for home-build designs similar in concept to the Lysander, such as the YM designs, please type ‘hardey’ instead of ‘hardy’ in the email address or go directly to their website at http://www.lysander.org.uk

We are sorry for the error.

General Meeting Report

The meeting held at The Victoria PH in Theydon Bois, Essex on 17th March 2018 was well attended and we enjoyed an excellent meal in great company.

The charity auction raised approximately £170 which will be distributed along with other funds in accordance with the wishes of the members in attendance at the meeting – a sum to the RNLI and the remainder to the Cirdan Sailing Trust as in previous years. Some items for sale remain outstanding and the President is looking into ways of disposing of these in a satisfactory manor, with the monies being added to the charitable donations in due course.

A full report of the meeting and the decisions made will be published in the Newsletter to be distributed to the membership within the next few weeks.

Autumn Bulletin 2017

Bulletin CoverAt last it is here! A little later than usual so please accept my apologies.

Members will find, in this issue, a full report on the EGM that was held in September. The need to include this report is, in part, the cause of the delay. As I informed the meeting at the time, I was due to go on an extended Autumn holiday and would not therefore have time to prepare the magazine before I went but I promised to get the Bulletin to the members before Christmas. I am now pleased to report that I have posted it out this morning – it should be with you early next week.

Once again, please accept my apologies for the delay.

AGM Report 2017

The Eventide Owners Association held their annual AGM on Saturday 28th January at the Bull, Theydon Bois in Essex where those in attendance enjoyed an excellent pub lunch. Attendance at the meeting was low although many apologies for absence were received. For this reason the usual raffle with proceeds given to the RNLI was not held, but the members agreed that the Association should make a small donation to the Walton and Frinton branch of the RNLI in lieu. The President had not received any entries for the annual Log Competition so no trophies were awarded.

The donation made to the Cirdan Sailing Trust by the Association last year was discussed. The groups using the Trusts services are responsible of their own financing of the trip and it is often difficult for them to raise sufficient funds. At our request the money we donated went into the trust’s ‘Voyage of Discovery Fund’, which grants bursaries to make up the short-fall for such groups. Shortly before the AGM our President received a report from the Cirdan Trust on how they had distributed our donation; two groups being the beneficiaries. One of these was a school for pupils with special educational needs and the other a youth group from a deprived area. Included with the report were endorsements from the group’s leaders and the young people who participated and it was very rewarding to read how much these children had benefited. We will be reporting further on this in the spring issue of the Bulletin and will be posting excerpts from the report on this website shortly.

As a result of the feedback from the Cirdan Trust is was decided to make another, smaller donation, this year with the beneficiaries being the same special needs school.

Several matters of significance to the future of the association were also discussed and members will receive a full report of these in the spring Bulletin. It is planned to call an Extraordinary General Meeting to discuss this more fully in the late summer and it is hoped that more members will be able to attend on that occasion.
